What types of image formats do you offer? How do I know which is right for me?

Storyblocks has images available in both vector and raster formats. Our photos, snapshots, and illustrations are all raster images. Which format is right for you depends on how you plan to use the file.

Vector graphic formats include EPS and PDF.

  • EPS – Editable in professional vector software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator). Can be opened in some non-vector programs, but the image will be flattened into a single layer.

  • PDF – Versatile and compatible with many programs. When opened in vector software, individual elements can still be edited.

Raster (non-vector) formats include PNG and JPG.

  • PNG – Flat images, often with transparent backgrounds. Great for web use, overlays, and simple projects, but not editable at the element level.

  • JPG – Flat images without transparency. Smaller in size, widely supported, but also not element-editable.

In short: Vectors = flexible editing with individual layers. Rasters = ready-to-use flat visuals.

Which should I choose?

  • Choose EPS or PDF (vector) if you need to resize, customize, or edit individual elements (e.g., logos, shapes, or graphics).

  • Choose PNG (raster) if you need a transparent background for layering in presentations, web design, or video projects.

  • Choose JPG (raster) if you just need a quick, universally supported image with no edits required.
