What is a non-vector?
A non-vector file (also called a raster image) is made up of a fixed grid of pixels. Because of this, raster images cannot be scaled beyond their original dimensions without losing quality. Enlarging them too much will cause blurriness or pixelation.
On Storyblocks, non-vector images are available in JPG and PNG formats.
Key differences
JPG β Best for photographs; smaller file size, but no transparency support.
PNG β Best for graphics that need transparency (e.g., logos, web graphics).
How to edit raster files
To work with raster images, you can use:
Adobe Photoshop
Affinity Photo
Free alternative: GIMP (open-source raster editor)
Raster files are most commonly used for photos, web graphics, presentations, and projects where the image will stay close to its original size.
