While the Storyblocks MCP and the Storyblocks API both provide access to search and download assets from our 100% human-made stock library, the way they can be used and how they function are different.
Where it can be used
ChatGPT and Claude are the only places where the Storyblocks MCP can be used right now, as it plugs directly into those AI assistants. The Storyblocks API, however, can be integrated into websites, products, apps, software, and internal systems.
How it’s used
With the MCP, members are asking Claude or ChatGPT to search our library of pre-licensed stock assets for them to find what they’re looking for, so the AI assistants come up with the search terms for you. With our API, users need to come up with their own search terms and are directly searching our library with a traditional search bar experience.
Who uses them
The Storyblocks MCP can be used by any Storyblocks member, as it’s included with all of our subscription plans, to help them create their own content. Meanwhile, the Storyblocks API can only be used by members who have access to it, users who have signed up for API access, or clients of users who have the API integrated into their product, website, etc.
